Istanbul Day 2: Messages
The city was in the mood to communicate today - little love notes around every corner.
Istanbul Day 2
Tuesday started with a trip to the dentist - who told me my teeth are fine, no need to do anything except go out and enjoy the beautiful day. The trip across the Bosporus was pure Istanbul -sparkling blue water, laughing seagulls, fishing boats, ferry boats, big rusty ships.
First stop was Rüstem Pasha mosque, which unfortunately is closed for renovations for at least 3 years. :( We did a little shopping to cope with our disappointment.
Next - lunch.
Absolutely delicious. My kebab sat on a bed of thin crunchy potato sticks - so good.
After lunch we wandered around Karaköy. Over the last 5 years this port neighborhood has really changed - now there are charming cafes and little artist studios next to the stores selling Helly Hansen foul weather gear and commercial fishing supplies.
The smell of freshly baked simit drew us around the corner just in time to see a delivery of wood for the oven.
Istanbul, Day 1
My first day in Istanbul was a rainy one - only 10% rain was forecast, but we got 100% of it. We did a little shopping, and ate lunch at Çiya in Kadiköy. When the sun came back we went to Kanlica and enjoyed the beautiful view. It is very late and we have a full day tomorrow, so here are some photos - I’ll add links to things later.
Beautiful Turkish breakfast
Cats. Everywhere.
I’m not sure what Hönönö is but looks like this dog had some.
Rainy lunch. I’m about to devour some lahmajun - flat bread spread with ground beef and spices - and Asli has a plate of assorted deliciousness.
Next up: Istanbul
Istanbul, the city of my heart. I can't wait to see and hear and taste it, and share my little travel stories with you.
Here are a few sights from 2014 to get you in the mood.
